Porto is a small city, yet it has great museums you should visit.

Soares dos Reis National Museum

The oldest public museum in Portugal and most famous in Porto. Opened nearly 200 years ago, the museum exhibits Portuguese art including Portuguese sculpture António Soares dos Reis, from which the museum derives its name.

Wednesday – Sunday: 10am – 6pm.

Tuesday: 2pm – 6pm.

Mondays: closed

1 January, Easter Sunday, 1 May and 25 December: closed.

Price-

Adult- 5 euro

Porto Card, seniors over 65 years old, youth card and youth between 12 and 25 years old: 50% discount.

Transport-

Serralves Foundation

Serralves is ranked in the top 100 most visited museums in the world. In the premises there is a contemporary museum of art, Vila and park and examples of modernism and Art Deco Architecture. To date, it’s the second most visited museum in Portugal and a very important contemporary art museum in the European world. Serralves Foundation is an art foundation whose “mission is to raise the general public’s awareness concerning contemporary art and the environment, via the Museum of Contemporary Art, Park and Auditorium”.

April – September:

Monday – Friday from 10 am – 7 pm.

Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays: 10 am – 8 pm.

October – March:

Monday – Friday: 10 am – 6 pm.

Saturday, Sunday and public holidays: 10 am – 7 pm.

December 24 and 31, closes at 4 pm.

25 December and 1 January: closed.

Price-

Adult- 20 euro (full ticket), Museum only- 12 euro, park only- 12 euro, House of Cinema- 12 euro, Art Deco House ticket- 12 euro.

Porto Card and youth card: 20% discount.

Students, young people between 12 and 17, and seniors over 65: 50% discount.

Children under 12: free

Museu do Carro Eléctrico

In English- The Tram Museum. The museum exhibits restored heritage streetcars, from old to new. They even show horse pulled trams from back in the 50s. there is a collection of the original tram driver’s uniforms, driver’s items and interesting photos. The oldest tram in the museum was built in 1872.
