Tram

Being a great tourist attraction in the city, the tram is a great way to travel. It takes you where you need to go quickly and allows you to see the scenic views.

There are five different routes with 58 trams in the city. Interestingly, 40\58 trams are vintage streetcars which are an attraction on their own.  The most popular tram in number 28. This is a wooden tram that feels like you traveled back in time. While on this tram you get to see historic areas of the city.

Bus

Most buses in the city run from 6:00 till 21:00, the busier lines will run till midnight. There are over 140 different bus routes in Lisbon, however we are going to mention the important ones for tourists.

Aerobus- this bus is a shuttle from the airport to the city center and back.

Lines 208,705,708,722,731,744,750, and 783- these are the lines that take you to the airport on public transportation. However, if you have a big bag of luggage, they won’t let you on.

Lines 26B, 400, 708, and 728- these busses connect the city center to the park of the nations. They also stop at the Oriente Station.

Lines 201, 714, 727, 728, 729, and 751- if you don’t want to take a tram or boat to Belem, this is the way to get there.

Night Buses- Rede da Madrugada – Lines 201 and 210- these lines run every day after the day busses finished operating.

Elevators

Lisbon has Elevators around the city. They were all designed by Raoul Mesnier de Ponsard, a Portuguese engineer. They are called Elevador do Lavra, Elevador da Glória, and Elevador da Bica.

Elevador do Lavra- this is the oldest cable car in the city, from 1884. It connects the Câmara Pestana and Largo da Anunciada streets.

Elevador da Glória- the most well-known of the three. It connects Restauradores Square with Rua San Pedro de Alcántara in Bairro Alto where you can enjoy fabulous views.

Elevador da Bica- connects Rua de São Paulo with Calçada do Combro.

2.9 Euro for onboard tickets.

1.45 Euro with a Transportation card.

Metro

The Metro is a great way to get around in Lisbon, especially for tourists.  It’s quite clean and has opportunities to get from the city center to other places. With out a doubt, it is the fastest way to get around the city. It was opened in 1959 and since then it just expanded.

Today there are four lines with 56 stations:

Blue line- Amadora este – Baixa Chiado.

Yellow line- Odivales – Rato. 

Green line- Cais do Sodré – Telheiras.

Red line- São Sebastião – Aeroporto.

 

The Metro operates from 06:30-01:00.
